If something goes wrong
Getting started
A marketplace with no money. Members give goods and skills to each other and earn credits — then spend credits on what they need.
Adults (18+) in Canada and the United States. One account per person. Trocaly is not yet available in Nevada, California, Arizona, Washington or New York.
Tap Join free and sign up with your email, or continue with Google. Verify your email from the message we send — you can look around right away, and posting and claiming unlock once your email is verified.
Tap 'Forgot password' on the log-in screen and we'll email you a link to set a new one.
Your credit line lets you claim up to 100 credits' worth before you've given anything. Claim what you need now — your balance can go below zero, down to −100. When the exchange completes, the giver earns those credits. Then give something of your own to bring your balance back up.
No app-store download is needed. You add Trocaly to your phone's Home Screen — it gets its own icon, opens like an app, and can send you notifications. The short video shows the steps on iPhone and Android.
Credits & wallet
Trocaly's way of keeping score. Give something and you earn credits; claim something and you spend them.
No. Credits are never bought, sold, given to another member, or cashed out. You earn them by giving — that's what keeps Trocaly fair.
You start with 0 credits — credits are only earned by giving. So you can take part right away: you can claim up to 100 credits before you have earned any (your balance can go down to −100). After your first completed exchange, that limit grows to 300 (down to −300). After five completed exchanges — each with a different member — it grows to 500 (down to −500). 500 is the cap: it is the most you can ever claim ahead of earning. There is no cap on how many credits you can earn and hold. A confirmed no-show or a problem report upheld against you pauses the growth of that limit. If a send-back takes your balance below zero, your credit line is frozen until your balance is back to zero or above. Credits never expire.
No. Credits never expire while you're a member.
In Profile, under Credits: your balance, how many are in open exchanges, and everything that has moved.
Claim it one visit at a time — list it per session or per visit. Each visit is its own exchange, so the credits for each one arrive on their own.
Giving & listing
Goods and skills of all kinds: things you no longer need, and things you can do — lessons, repairs, an hour of help.
No. Exchanges on Trocaly are permanent — when one completes, the item changes hands for good and the credits move with it. There's no lending or borrowing here, and no way to set a return date. If you want something back one day, don't exchange it.
Tap I Give, add a photo and a few words, set your credits, and post. Posting is free.
You set your own number — up to 5,000 credits. A good guide: 1 credit for each $1 it would sell for used — a bike that would sell for $200 used is 200 credits. For a skill, think of the going rate for that work.
Every exchange on Trocaly moves credits — that's how giving earns you the right to claim things from others. A listing has to ask at least 1 credit. Giving something away with nothing expected back is a kind thing, but it isn't an exchange, so it doesn't happen here.
No. If you can do it well, you can offer it — sing at a birthday, walk a neighbour's dog, teach what you know. Trocaly doesn't check or certify anyone's skill, so ask about their experience and agree in chat what the job includes before you accept. The only exception is work the law says needs a licence, like electrical or medical work — those services aren't offered on Trocaly at all, because Trocaly can't check licences (see 'What can never be exchanged?').
Yes — add up to 10 photos per listing, up to 5 MB each, straight from your phone. The first photo is the one members see in Explore.
60 days. We remind you a week before it ends, and renewing takes one tap. If it does expire, the listing closes, and you can renew it any time from Your listings.
From I Give → Your listings. If it's in an exchange, removing it cancels the exchange and the credits go back in full.
There's no pause button. If you need a listing down right now, tap Remove in Your listings — removing is final: when you're ready again, post it fresh. Listings also close on their own after 60 days, and you can renew one any time from Your listings, even after it has expired (see 'How long does my listing stay up?').
Claiming
Open the listing and tap Claim. A confirmation screen shows the listing and its credits — tap Confirm claim, and the credits are taken from your balance right away and kept safe until the exchange is done.
Your credit line covers you up to its limit — your balance can go below zero, down to the bottom of the line. Past that, give something first to build your balance.
Claiming always happens at the listed credits — that's the price. If you'd like a different number, message the giver and ask. Only the giver can change a listing's price: if they agree, they edit the listing, and the new price is then the price for everyone. Once the listing shows the new price, claim it at that price.
Yes — any time before the giver marks it done, and the credits go straight back to you. The one exception: if a report is open on the exchange, Trocaly will resolve it first. After it's marked done, use 'Something's wrong' if there's a problem.
In Explore, set the distance to Anywhere. And look for skills marked Online — they're done by video call or phone, so anyone in your country can exchange them with you. Trocaly is new and growing area by area, so check back — and posting something of your own is often what gets an area started.
Yes. In Explore, tap 'I'm looking for…' and write one line about what you need (a photo helps, but it's optional). Members near you see it for 30 days and can message you if they have it. You can have up to 3 requests up at a time, and you can delete one any time.
The exchange & meeting up
Watch the short 'How an exchange works' video — claiming, credits kept safe, meeting, and getting your credits.
Say hello in Messages and arrange the meetup. When the exchange has happened, tap 'Mark as done' — the credits arrive on their own (see 'When do I get my credits?').
In Messages. Agree on a time there — and if plans change, message and agree a new one. Rescheduling beforehand is always fine.
On an open exchange, either of you can tap 'Suggest a meeting' and propose a time and a place. The card shows in the exchange — the other member taps Accept, or suggests a different time instead. Pick a public, busy place for a first meeting.
Yes — up to 4 photos per message.
Somewhere public, where you can. You never have to share your home address — agree a meeting point instead.
Tap 'Mark as done' when the exchange has happened. The credits arrive 24 hours later on their own — or right away if the other member taps 'Confirm receipt'. Nobody has to release them by hand; they move on their own. But if a problem is reported in those 24 hours, the credits wait while we review it.
Mark it as soon as you can — the 3 days start when you tap. If 14 days pass from the claim and it was never marked done, the credits go back to the member who claimed automatically.
Problems & protection
Tap 'Something's wrong' on the exchange and tell us in your own words. Trocaly reads the messages, hears both sides, and decides: the credits go to the giver, back to you, or split between you.
If anyone is hurt or in danger, call 911 first. Then tap 'Something's wrong' on the exchange and tell us what happened — you can add photos. For a problem with the exchange, we read the messages, hear both sides, and decide whether the credits go to the giver, back to you, or split between you. A credit decision does not decide who is legally responsible for an injury or damage. Trocaly does not test or certify members' skills, and it does not provide insurance for exchanges between members. For serious harm, keep your photos, messages, and notes — you may need them for the police, an insurer, or a court.
Answer the 'Was it as described?' question honestly when your exchange completes — those answers are the record other members see. If it's a real problem, tap 'Something's wrong' on the exchange, before it completes or within 14 days after it completes: while we review, the credits stay where they are, and Trocaly can send them back to you, leave them with the giver, or split them.
Message them first — plans slip. If they truly don't come, open the exchange and tap 'They didn't show up'. The held credits come straight back to the member who claimed, whichever side reports it. If you claimed and you don't show up: once the no-show is confirmed, the member who waited gets 5 credits — taken only from credits you had already earned, never from your credit line. It goes on your show-up record, your credit line stops growing, and 3 confirmed no-shows freeze your credit line and your account is reviewed. If you're the giver and you don't show up: the member who claimed gets all their credits back right away, and the same record, credit-line and 3-no-show consequences apply to you. A report alone changes nothing on anyone's record: the member reported always gets 7 days to explain, and only a confirmed no-show counts.
Nothing — there's nothing to chase. Once you tap 'Mark as done', your credits arrive on their own in 24 hours (right away if the other member taps 'Confirm receipt'). The other member can't hold them back by staying silent: the credits were taken from their balance when they claimed. (If they report a problem in those 24 hours, the credits wait while we review it. A problem can also be reported up to 14 days after the credits are paid. See 'What happens if I report?')
Yes — you have 14 days after the credits are paid. If we find something was wrong, we can send some or all of the credits back. After 14 days, email us if it's something serious.
Both sides get to tell their story, and we read the messages about the exchange. While we review, the credits stay where they are. You get a decision with the reason — we aim to decide within 7 days.
That counts against them, not you. Lying in a report, or tapping 'Mark as done' for an exchange that never happened, is treated as fraud: warning, strike, frozen credit line, suspension, or your membership ended — the same ladder as any serious misbehaviour.
Open the listing and tap 'Report this listing'. Choose the reason that fits — a dangerous item, a scam, asking for cash — and add a note if you like. Trocaly reviews it, and you're told the decision — so is the member who posted the listing. Reports are private: that member isn't told who reported them.
Service fees
Joining and listing are free. When an exchange completes, the member who claimed pays one small fee — 1% of the credits, never less than $1 and never more than $30. Claims under 50 credits never have a fee. Fees are not switched on yet, so for now exchanges are completely free — we'll announce it in the app at least 30 days before that changes.
The fee is 1% of the credits in the exchange, never less than $1 and never more than $30 — always in your own currency: Canadian dollars in Canada, US dollars in the United States. Claims under 50 credits have no fee at all. Every claim of 50 credits or more carries the fee, from your very first one. For example: 50 credits → a $1 fee; 500 credits → a $5 fee; 2,000 credits → a $20 fee.
Only when an exchange completes and the credits reach the giver. Cancelled, no-show, or credits returned in full — no fee, or the fee is refunded. An exchange that was opened before fees switch on stays free, even if it completes afterwards. Fees are not collected yet. If only part of the credits are sent back after a review, the fee stays as charged, because the exchange did complete in part.
The member who claimed. The giver never pays a fee.
They can. In Canada and the US, what you earn from an exchange can count as taxable income. In the US, credits are taxed in the year they arrive in your account, based on the fair market value of the goods or services exchanged. Trocaly can't give tax advice — keep simple records of your exchanges, and check with a tax professional if you're unsure. If the law ever requires Trocaly to report exchanges, members will be told first.
Reviews & member records
After an exchange, each of you answers one question about the other: was it as described? Those answers build the 'As described' line on your profiles.
Every profile shows how reliably a member shows up. A no-show counts only after 7 days undisputed, or after Trocaly decides a dispute.
No. Reports are private. What members see is your show-up record and your 'As described' line — results, not accusations.
Account, privacy & safety
Your first name, your city & neighbourhood, your area (the first 3 characters of your postal code or ZIP), your listings, your show-up record, and your feedback. Never your email, your full postal code, or your home address.
An email — and a notice in the app — when someone claims your listing, sends you a message, marks an exchange done, or an exchange completes or closes; a reminder the day before held credits are released; if a no-show is reported about you; and if Trocaly takes an action on your account. In the app you'll also be told when a listing is about to expire or has expired. Verifying your email and resetting your password always come by email.
Open Profile and update your city & neighbourhood and postal code. Anything you post from then on shows your new area. Listings already up keep the area they were posted with — if one needs to move with you, remove it and post it again.
Open their profile and tap Block. They can't message you or deal with you, and you won't see their listings. You can unblock any time from your own profile.
If anyone is in danger, call 911 first. Then report the member: open their profile, or open your conversation with them and tap Report. You can report the exact message that crossed the line and attach photos as evidence. Reports about threats, stalking, or unwanted sexual behaviour jump the queue — we answer within 1 business day. You can also email safety@trocaly.com.
Open the conversation and tap Report, then choose 'Report this message' on the message itself. You choose which messages around it to include, and you see exactly what will be shared before you send — nothing else from your chat is shared. You can also attach up to 5 photos, for example screenshots of something that happened off Trocaly. Only the person reviewing your report sees them — never the member you reported.
Yes. Trocaly cannot browse your private chats. The only messages we ever see are the ones you choose to share when you report a message, and the messages in an exchange chat when that exchange is reported. In a serious case we may also have to share information if the law requires it. Chats with Trocaly Support are different: there you're writing to Trocaly itself, so the Trocaly team can read the whole conversation to help you.
Meet in a public, busy place — a coffee shop, or the safe trade area many police stations offer. Tell someone where you're going, and keep your chat on Trocaly until you've met.
Trocaly can't inspect items, so check when you meet, before you accept: look for damage, swollen batteries, and expiry dates. For baby and kids' items especially, you can search the Government of Canada's free recall list. If something looks wrong, don't take it — tap Something's wrong, report it, and your credits stay safe.
Delete it yourself: in the app, open Profile and tap 'Delete my account'. To confirm, you type DELETE and enter your password again. Your account is deactivated right away. Open exchanges are finished or cancelled first: an exchange you're giving that you haven't marked done yet is cancelled straight away, and any other exchange gets up to 14 days to finish. If a problem report is open, your deletion finishes only after Trocaly's owner decides the report. Once your open exchanges are closed out, your profile, listings, photos and your own messages are deleted — a listing tied to a past exchange leaves only a bare placeholder, with no text or photos. Any credits left in your balance end with your account — credits have no cash value and can't be transferred. If you can't use the app, go to trocaly.com/delete-account, enter your email, and we'll email you a link to delete it from there. Your records are handled the way the Privacy Policy describes.
Not by yourself — email support@trocaly.com and we'll change it after checking the request comes from the account's owner.
Reset your password: tap 'Forgot password' on the log-in screen and we'll email you a link — it works for 1 hour, and resetting signs out every device, so anyone else's session ends too. Then email support@trocaly.com and tell us what looks wrong.
What's allowed
Food and drinks; alcohol, cannabis, tobacco, and vapes; medicines, supplements, and vitamins; weapons, ammunition, and pepper spray; fireworks and other explosives; hazardous chemicals, pesticides, and fuels; damaged, swollen, or leaking batteries; anything that has been recalled or is banned in Canada — including baby walkers, drop-side cribs, and inclined sleepers; used baby car seats and cribs; used helmets; opened, used, expired, or homemade cosmetics and personal-care products; counterfeit goods; gift cards and event tickets; live animals; and services that legally need a licence, like medical or legal advice, or electrical and gas work. And never list anything damaged in a way that could make it unsafe, or used safety gear whose condition you can't be sure of, like life jackets or climbing gear — if you're not sure it's safe, don't list it.
No — food and drinks are never exchanged on Trocaly, including home-cooked meals.
Yes — pet sitting is a skill like any other. Live animals themselves are never exchanged.
No — and childcare isn't offered on Trocaly for now. Trocaly does not background-check or certify providers of any service: whatever the service, arrange your own references, meet first somewhere public, and trust your judgement.
Rides
Not yet. Rides are coming later — for now, Trocaly is goods and skills.
